Straight Lines 3.59/On Islands 4.25 (GTO, GT 255) [reached no 53]
This shorter single version of Straight Lines was included the CD 'Rock On To The Seventies' (on the Pickwick label).
The German synth pop group Camouflage did a nice cover version of 'On Islands'
which was included on their 1989 LP/CD Methods of Silence (Metronome 839 613-2).
It is very close to the original version.

Reached number 35.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed at Alan Robinson's
use of quotes from my New Musik site, in the 2001 CD booklet.
Partly because he never asked me, and partly because
he never credited me (or Miklos Galla who did the interviews!).

which unfortunately are not included on the CD.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed at Alan Robinson's
use of quotes from my New Musik site, in the UK 2001 CD booklet.
Partly because he never asked me, and partly because
he never credited me (or Miklos Galla who did the interviews!).
Lee Mansfield told me 14 April 2001: "There were a few tracks that were written around the same time [Anywhere sessions]
that were never released. One I remember being played on a radio interview with Tony (Radio Jackie - a local South London based station)
and it was called 'Pleasure Moves' - it had a similar feel to 'From The Village'."

The Planet Doesn't Mind [12" mix] 4.45/24 Hours from Culture - Part II 3.38 (GT 13 302)
At least two different UK 7" pressings exist, both without picture sleeve: one with blue label, one with grey. The Dutch 7" has a painted picture sleeve. The 12" has no picture sleeve either.
The group 'X Visitors' made a cover version of The Planet Doesn't Mind. Three versions were made:
vocal version 3.59, instrumental 4.48 and Club Remix 7.30. Produced by Diane Dragon for Sutra Records New York City.
A member, Chris Arevalo, emailed me March 16th 2000:
"my name is Chris Arevalo. during 1982, i was
playing in a top 40 band called ROJAS in san jose, california. i also worked
in a record store called star records which was owned by diane dragone.
during that time, the hottest song in that area was the remix of planet
doesnt mind. we would order around 20 copies and it would be gone within the
hour. it became hard to find a copy. diane dragone presented the song to my
band, and at first the band was skeptical about redoing the song, but i
convinced them to re record it.
we recorded it in a 24 track studio in san jose. i played 75% of the
recording. i paid a programmer to create most of the sounds on my keyboards.
some of the sounds we couldn't create so we used tuned glasses of water to
create the beginning sounds. that was really fun (yeah right!)
even though diane dragone named the project x-visitors, we still used the
rojas name when we played the song live. our version did very well in major
cities, and was one of most requested songs on KMEL in san francisco, became
a minor dance hit. one more thing, people are willing to pay up to 50 dollars
for a copy of both the new musik or the x-visitors version. every so often,
a dj would add it to their mix.
i didnt get paid much of
doing the keyboard work, but during that time the band i was with was getting
popular for recording it. oh by the way, the lead singer who sang is named
david taylor. we tried to make him sound english. the sessions were really
funny in some ways.
one more note....after we couldn't get anymore import copies. the store
started making lists of customers who wanted the remix. i believe we had
thousands of customers on sheets of paper. when the x-visitors version came
out, only Star Records ( the store i worked at) had the copies. I only wish
to thank Tony Mansfield for writing "The Planet" His album "Warp" inspired
me greatly, and his production was awesome.
In May 1989, the group Twice the Love made their version of 24 Hours from Culture
(Who's That Beat/Play It Again Sam, WHOS 013). Four versions were made:
single version 3.50, instrumental, extended 5.50 and Enjoy Mix.

All You Need Is Love 4.17 (Lennon/MacCartney) [1.22-5.39 of LP version]/Twelfth House 4.32 (EPC A1976)
The UK 7" has no picture sleeve, just a blue label. The Dutch 7" has a painted picture sleeve.
Tim Masson told me that there is a promotional 7" (EPC A1976ADJ) where the music fades out after about 4 minutes.

26 Nov 1982 | solo/collaboration 7" | Planet Ha Ha: Home |
Home 4.35/Home 4.25 (Instrumental) (EMI, 5358)
Planet Ha Ha is Tony Mansfield, Lee Mansfield and Rob Fisher (from Naked Eyes).
EMI wanted them to record this single for the movie E.T.
'Lee Mansfield [who sings on Home] said that Planet Ha-Ha were originally to become NEW MUSIK II.
Besides 'Home' and 'Finders Keepers' (which was created especially for the BBC Children's TV show)
an album's worth of material was recorded, but due to the legal issues pending around Home,
EMI delayed releasing the album, and eventually the various members moved on to other projects
leaving the recorded tracks in the archives."
INFO FROM TONY MANSFIELD HIMSELF: (5 Jan 2000)
"1) A new "new musik" album is in production and should be released in
autumn this year. [note: this has been delayed!]
2) The original masters are owned by Sony after GTO records were sold to
Sony in 1982.
Product is subject to availability however there are plans to re-package the
original albums and for a new compilation.
3) There were two UK tours (1980/1981). Live tapes do exist and there were
two early promo videos for "Living By Numbers" and "This World Of Water".
4) I still keep in contact with Clive (we last played together at a garden
party in summer 98!!) and Tony Hibbert. Clive now works for a software
company and Tony has a "live music" bar in South London. I lost contact with
Phil Towner and Cliff Venner.
5) Aside from new musik, I was recently in Dublin, Ireland collaborating
with Jane Siberry on an album by Japanese artist "Sotoma". I've produced an
album for new Columbia artist "Ilene Barnes" and negotiations are underway
in the US for a new "Naked Eyes" album based on the songs written by Rob
Fisher before he sadly died." (Thanks to Mark Hershberger for doing this
on-line short interview with Tony and for kindly providing it to my mailing list.)
