April 1980 | 7" | Lexington Queen |
Lexington Queen inside 4.50/Lexington Queen outside
Thanks to Theo Spadlo for info on this very rare single. He told the YMO mailing list 3 May 2003:
"It was given to invited guests only at the opening of the Lexington Queen in Tokyo, Roppongi, April 1980.
The version on the A-Side (Lexington Queen inside) is identical to the version on the B-Side of Sakamoto's single War Head.
However, the B-Side (Lexington Queen outside) is completely different:
- The (studio) recording sounds like it's all been done in one take.
- It has a different arrangement.
- It has more beats per minute.
- There's a superb guitar solo break in the middle of the song.
- It has a completely different ending.
Possible studio line-up (there are no credits given on the actual item):
Vocals & Drums: definitely by Yukihiro Takahashi.
Guitars: some say it's Kenji Ohmura, others say it's Kazumi Watanabe.
Keyboards: Ryuichi Sakamoto (?), probably (also) by Akiko Yano."

"The secret gig at the Great Eastern Hotel in London was given after his 2nd European tour ended on July 29th [2000].
While there was no contractual obligations, it was the band members' wishes to do this. Some lucky surprises happened during
the show, such as cellist Jack Morelenbaum's wife singing Jobim's "Falando de Amor" with an amazingly beautiful voice
(which happened because it happened to be her birthday) or Talvin Singh joining the performers, all of which are captured on this CD. 72min."

Composed, performed and produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto, except track 2 composed and performed by Fennesz + Sakamoto
A review from Theo Spadlo: "KOKO is a beautiful solo piano piece. ROPA could also have been a beautiful
solo piano piece if Sakamoto's piano playing hadn't been spoiled by the
horrible noises that are being produced by fennesz. DANCING IN THE SKY is a
joyful little piano piece, though it's ridiculously short."
