24 minutes into the documentary 'Tokyo Melody' he says "I recorded about 30 pieces between January and June 1983, and from April to June this year [1984]. I will chose 10 of them to include in my new solo album. Others I may throw away, or use for advertising films. Maybe I'll keep them for another album. There are many types of music, I don't feel the same about each tune. How to chose? What will be the concept? I'm not sure."

Ma Mère l’Oye is old French for "Mother Goose", the imaginary author of a collection of nursery rhymes published in 1781 in London as Mother Goose's Melody.

Recorded 26 Aug 1995 at Tokyo Bay Side Square. Written and performed by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tetsuya Komuro (the most successful producer in Japanese music history). No studio version of this track is available (apparently it was written especially for this event). The song is always wrongly spelled 'Voltex' of Love, but the correct spelled would be 'Vortex'. Disc 1 is named Disco Week in Velfarre (a large disco in Roppongi, Tokyo, that was owned back then by Tetsuya Komuro and the record label Avex Trax). Disc 2 is named TK Dance Camp. The songs on Disc 1 and Disc 2 are from two different events. VOLTEX OF LOVE is on the TK Dance Camp disc.

  5. 3-3 Light 15.46 (Warner Japan, WPC6-10035~10036)
"LIFE a Ryuichi Sakamoto Opera 1999" was commissioned by the Asahi Shimbun (a newspaper) to commemorate the 120th anniversary of its founding and by TV-Asahi to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its establishment.

"Some Japanese sites call LIFE IN PROGRESS a "sound sketch" or a "work version" of the actual opera LIFE, but neither the LIFE IN PROGRESS inlay nor any of the "official" sites use any of these terms. 'LIFE Synthesizer version' is the official description for it on the sticker on the front. The versions on LIFE IN PROGRESS are all pretty complete, i.e. they include most of the singing and most of the spoken texts, narration, recitations, interview pieces etc. that can be heard on RAW LIFE. As far as I can tell, the only things from RAW LIFE that are missing on LIFE IN PROGRESS are some (much too long) narrations by José Carreras at the beginning of OVERTURE and EVOLUTION OF LIFE (more than 8 minutes in total) and some singing by Salif Keita on HISTORY OF GAIA. All the orchestral parts as well as the extremely beautiful "Libera Me" choir on RAW LIFE are performed on synthesizer on LIFE IN PROGRESS. Some synthesizer parts and synthesizer sounds from LIFE IN PROGRESS were also used on RAW LIFE. BTW, most of the differences in track duration between RAW LIFE IN OSAKA and RAW LIFE IN TOKYO are due to the sometimes very long pauses between the songs (up to a minute). Only DOOR OPEN is really longer on RAW LIFE OSAKA (1:51) than on RAW LIFE TOKYO (1:10). The "full" version on LIFE IN PROGRESS is 5:15 long."

Comments from Theo Spadlo: "The CM/TV CD says that Track 28 is The Echoing Blue (Kajima Corporation Inc. Image Song), but they have made a mistake here. Track 28 is indeed the song "The Echoing Blue," but it's NOT the Kajima Corporation Inc. Image Song. The Kajima Corporation Inc. Image Song is named WAT ARUN. It's on the 1990 Promo CD Kajima Corporation - The Image Music and it's NOT subtitled "The Echoing Blue." The song "The Echoing Blue" was on the 1989 Promo CD TOKIO KUMAGAÏ."

Quote from sitesakamoto: "After touring the world in support their release of Casa, Morelenbaum2/Sakamoto, joined by guitarist Luiz Brasil and percussionist Marcelo Costa, discovered that they had reached a new level of collaboration in Jobim¹s music. The Casa tour was scheduled to end with a performance at the renovated Winter Garden at New York¹s World Financial Center on November 6, 2002, but no one wanted the dream to end so soon. The next day the group got together one last time before going their separate ways to record their live set, capturing the experience of the tour and new insights into the music. They¹re all thrilled to have the opportunity to share the result of what transpired on November 7, 2002 with you."

Theo Spadlo informed me: "There were two competitions (for amateurs only). In one category people (listeners to Sakamoto's radio show) had to send in a demo of their own composition, in the other category people had to make a remix (or their own interpretation) of THE LANDSONG. A selection of the best songs and remixes that were sent in were then released on the DOCUMÉNTO - RADIO SAKAMOTO - CD. Tracks 1-16 on the CD are new compositions that were sent in. Track 17 & 18 are remixes of THE LANDSONG."
