Feb 1980 | 7" | Sparks: When I'm with You |
When I'm with You 4.04/(part 2) 3.45 (UK: Virgin, VS 319)
This single version is available on 'Sparks: The Heaven Collection' CD and 'The Very Best of Sparks' Repertoire CD.
The B-side is the same as the instrumental version on the LP.
Liner notes in Sparks CD "The Heaven Collection" 1993: "Ron had played Giorgio scores of songs before recording 'Terminal Jive'
and all had been rejected with the exception of 'When I'm with You' which Giorgio still felt needed a new middle section.
In commercial terms, this was the biggest singlr Sparks has had to date, and it was never even released in America.
The majoroty of the sales came from France where we stayed for nine months as a result of the large number of TV shows we appeared on.
A video of Ron as a venttriloquist and me as his dummy (no comments please) was shown to death in France.
As a result, we could walk into virtually any couscous restaurant in Paris and get the best table in the house."

it is more rock/pop and less disco.

- Palms Springs Drive 3.22
- Night Drive (reprise) 2.50
- The Seduction (Love Theme) 3.14 (CD: Spectrum, 551103-2)
All tracks written and produced by Giorgio Moroder except where noted.
1, 3, 6 and 7 are all excellent variations of the rocky Call Me, whereas
4 is quite boring. 2 and 5 are OK and 8 is the mandatory love theme.
NOTE: The Seduction was issued as a single in USA with lyrics written by Michael Lloyd. It was then re-titled 'Something In Return'
and released by a group called 'The Hues Corporation' (Polydor PD 2092 - 1980). It was also produced by Michael Lloyd.
Thanks to Dan Magnusson for this info.
NOTE 2: James Last released a single in April 1980 with cover version of The Seduction (backed with Night Drive).

All songs produced by Moroder/Bellotte. To me this is a real disappointment,
the only track worth listening to is the first one. What happened to his
rhythm?

All songs produced by Moroder/Bellotte. Recorded in 1981 and intended for

A wide range of styles, but I only like eight of them: 5, 6, 8, 9, 10,
14, 15 and 16. Not her best album but worth buying anyway. Some CDs have
a different track order than mine.

- Maniac 4.04 [no involvement by Moroder]
(US LP: Casablanca 422-811 492-1; CD: Casablanca 811 492-2)
1 is a standard Moroder production, 3 is a wonderful and hauntingly beautiful song which
shows that he can not only play rhythms but also write beautiful melodies.
4 is a very good rocker, and 5 is a romantic and slow affair that was
very popular in 1983, and 6 is OK too. 7 is from Donna Summer's
I'm a Rainbow and is an electronic rock stomper. 8 is more conventional rock with
Moroder's stomping. 9 is romantic (and boring) and the final track 10 is actually
one of the best tracks on the album even though Moroder has nothing to do with it.

Generally a very nice and uptempo dance album (5, 6 and 10 are the only slower
tracks). Includes five extended versions and one bonus track ('Talk Too Much' which is more of a synth pop tune
than a dance track, not unlike Romance '83). In short, a great CD!

Reach Out 3.48 (G. Moroder/R. Zito/P. Engemann)/
Reach Out (instrumental) 2.51 (CBS A 4570)
Reach Out 5.39 (Dance Mix)/(Instrumental) 4.53 (US 12": CBS 44-05041)
Reach out [vocals: Paul Engemann] (Japanese CDS: CBS/Sony 35DP 200)
The official music of the 23rd Olympiad Los Angeles 1984.
Thanks to Robert Shaffer and JDL for the information.
A new version, dated 1990, was issued in 1992 on a compilation CD 'Go for Gold - Unforgettable Sports Hits' (Edel Records EDL 2609-2).
Colin Linskey told me this: 'The new version has a different vocalist, and arranged slightly different, and sounds excellent. Very similar in style though.'

1 is good (we've all heard it), 3 is also quite good, while 2, 4 and 5 are OK. Honestly only a completist
would buy this soundtrack to get these other tracks.

(CD: CD VIP 127)
A real disappointment if you only buy it for the four Moroder tracks.
4 is corny, 5 is an OK rocker, 9 is a slow melody only, and we've all
heard 10 to death. ELO founder Jeff Lynne's two tracks are the best on this soundtrack.
Heaven 17's song is an OK instrumental too. Clive Hocker noticed something
interesting: 'Watch out for Moroder in a brief speaking role towards the end of
the film when havoc is breaking out in a radio station!'

Robot Dance (written by Moroder) would fit well on the soundtrack: it's an instrumental uptempo rocker.

All music and production by Giorgio Moroder and all lyrics by Pete Bellotte except where noted.
1, 2 and 8 are excellent electro-rockers, 2 is boring, 4 sounds like a Cat People out-take (good!),
5 is string based and nothing special actually, 6 and 7 are common (boring) rockers, 9 is OK,
10 is a good and varied instrumental with unusual sounds (for Moroder).
