1973 | German 7" | Donna Summer: Hostage |
Hostage/Let's Work Together Now (Oasis)
Donna Summer, born 31 Dec 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, moved to Munich in 1968.
She first met Moroder in 1973 after having answered
advertisements for one of three back-up, preferably black female, vocalists.
Moroder: "Our big start, of course, was Donna. I was quite impressed by her voice, although I didn't think about doing anything particular with her."
She got the job as a 'studio singer' at Giorgio Moroder's and Pete Bellotte's
Musicland Studios. Six months later they persuaded her to sing a song of theirs entitled 'The Hostage'. It was a hit in France and Holland, as was its rapid follow up single.
She returned to the US in 1975. [info partly taken from NME 9 Dec 1978]

All songs written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte.
Produced by Pete Bellotte. Thanks to Mamoru Samejima for the information.
Clive Hocker 990702: "The Repertoire/Oasis release features slightly better digital mastering and a MUCH better cover!
The album was originally released in 1974, the year before Love To Love You Baby,
and listening to it, it becomes clear that Moroder and Bellotte had
not yet 'discovered/invented' disco since it is a collection of highly
forgettable rock-orientated songs - apart from Lady of the Night and The
Hostage which are more tuneful 'novelty' tracks. In fact it gives NO idea of
the ground-breaking music that was to follow only months later!
