various artists CD EROTIC CAPRICCIO [EROTICA KYOUSOUKYOKU]

All three songs were recorded in 1974 (exact date is unknown) for the movie YOIMACHIGUSA by Director TATSUMI KUMASHIRO which had its premiere on 28 Dec 1974. 'Yoimachigusa' was reworked and released as a single shortly after on 25 Jan 1975. 'Yoimachigusa no theme' was reworked and released in 1975 as 'Hyouryu ki' on Hosono's solo LP TROPICAL DANDY. 'Fuyu no deai' was reworked and released as B-side to the Yoimachigusa single and then reworked again and released as 'Sanji no komoriuta' (two versions) on Hosono's solo LP TROPICAL DANDY.

    (DVD: CRCP-20386A)
Comments on the DVD by Theo Spadlo: "The opening, Harry 'The Lion' Hosono, is very funny. It's Hosono performing the part of the lion in the opening scene of the MGM movies. The most interesting item on the DVD for me was the MERRY GO ROUND part. It is showing Hosono sitting and walking around on a 1907 German merry-go-round in the Toshimaen Amusement Park in 1976. The old silent film footage is being accompanied by music that was written by Hosono in 2006. The music is a bit reminiscent of his music on the Non-Standard/Monad label. I quite like it. It's a pity the DVD's playing time is only 37 min. and some of the songs on it are not being played in full."

Keyboards by "Shuka Nishihara" (Haruomi Hosono), Ryuichi Sakamoto and Hiroshi Sato. Computer Programming by Hideki Matsutake. Actually Hosono wrote all six tracks, but for some reason he used a pseudonym ("Shuka Nishihara") for the tracks on the B-side. In the 2005 cardboard sleeve edition of COCHIN MOON there's an extra booklet that contains an interview (by Yuji Tanaka) from 27 January 2005 with Hosono. In it Hosono confirms that Shuka Nishihara = Haruomi Hosono and that the name was derived from Hakushû Kitahara, a penname of Ryûkichi Kitahara (25 January 1885 - 2 November 1942), who is regarded as one of the most popular and important poets in modern Japanese literature.

21 June 1982 various artists cassette OTOBAN BIKKURI HOUSE: GYAKUFUNSHA SHOOKOOGUN NO MAKI

'Jingle' written and performed by Hosono. 'Hanba no koi no Monogatari' written, arranged and performed by Hosono, words by Michio Akiyama, vocals by Masatoh Eve. Info from Theo Spadlo: "HANBA NO KOI NO MONOGATARI ("Bunkhouse Love Story") is about two gay construction workers and it is said that Alfa Records decided to withdraw the song because of customer complaints, but the real reason probably is the fact that both title and music were too similar to the famous 1962 song GINZA NO KOI NO MONOGATARI ("Ginza Love Story") by Yujiro Ishihara & Aki Yashiro. I think that was the real reason why the song HANBA NO KOI NO MONOGATARI was removed from the original OTOBAN BIKKURI HOUSE - GYAKUFUNSHA SHÔKÔGUN NO MAKI CT album and was replaced with the song YUMEMIRU YAKUSOKU and why it also wasn't on Masatô Ibu's compilation 2-CD IBU NO SUBETE ("Everything by/from Ibu")."

'Datte, Hormon Love' written (arranged and performed too?) by Hosono, words by Michio Akiyama, vocals by Masatoh Eve. It is an India-inspired song, quite nice but I find the vocals are sometimes annoying. There is also a version around with Hosono's own vocals on it.

Haruomi Hosono: Prophet-5, MC-4, Emulator, Linn Drum, Electric Bass, Piano, Electric Piano and Roland-808 (on 1,3,4 & 5). Tracks 1, 3 and 5 are on the 20th CENTURY BOX - The Japanese Pops of Haruomi Hosono.

  1. Talking 15.03
  2. Growth 14.55 (cassette: CT T-980017; book: Tojyusya 0073-10503-5190)
Performed and recorded by Hosono, produced by Hosono and Michio Akiyama. Came with an 80-page book; part of SEED cassette-book series of TOJYU-SYA co. "Talking" is an early version of the track "The Endless Talking" from the 1985 album. The two tracks on this cassette, and "The Plan" from COINCIDENTAL MUSIC, were recorded for MUJI - a Japanese supermarket company SEIYU.co - as muzak in the store. "Talking" was later included on the various artists 3-CD "MUJI BGM 1980 - 2000" in 2000 (see below).

(23 June 2000) various artists 3-CD MUJI (MUJIRUSHI RYOUHIN) BGM 1980 - 2000

Compilation of background music ("BGM") for the "MUJI" chain stores. Limited Edition of 30,000. Comments from Theo Spadlo: "TALKING - BGM ver. - is identical to TALKING (from the 1984 cassette). The only difference is that, in the beginning of the song, there's an extra 30 sec. - sort of an introduction - in which the same musical theme is being repeated three times. So, TALKING BGM ver. = 30 sec. "intro" + TALKING."
