The 2000 CD omits the following SULK related tracks: Party Fears Two (Album Version), Club Country (Album Version), It's Better This Way (B-side version), Club Country (Extended Version), Party Fears Two (extended), A.G It's You Again, Voluntary Wishes Swap-it Production, It's Better This Way (Mark Arthurworrey Remix), Party Fears Two (Mark Arthurworrey Remix). The 2016 2-CD includes three of these missing tracks, but "Party Fears Two (Album Version)", "A.G It's You Again" & "Voluntary Wishes Swap-it Production" are still not available on CD! There is an interview with Michael Dempsey about the 2016 2-CD: https://www.electricityclub.co.uk/the-associate-an-interview-with-michael-dempsey/ The 2022 Box Set still does not include "Party Fears Two - Album Version", "A.G It's You Again" & "Voluntary Wishes Swap-it Production"! (Although the limited CD-singles does include "Party Fears Two - Album Version") Strangely, it includes two tracks from the previous album FOURTH DRAWER DOWN and also live tracks from early 1981.

An unreleased instrumental version of "Skipping" (3.40) was included on a German 3-CD compilation "All My Sins Remembered - The Sonic Worlds of John Murphy" (6 June 2016, cat no The Epicurean, cure.10) (limited to 750 copies). It was recorded 25 August 1981 at The Playground, London. "This mix: 2016." I'm not sure if that means that the track was originally recorded with vocals which were removed in 2016, or if it was indeed an (early) instrumental which was properly mixed in 2016.

July 1982 double A-sided 7"/12" The Associates: 18 Carat Love Affair / Love Hangover

    18 Carat Love Affair 3.40 / Love Hangover 4.23 (7": Associates, ASC 3)

    18 Carat Love Affair 3.40 // Voluntary Wishes, Swap-it Production 3.22 / Love Hangover 6.09 [full version] (12": ASC 3T)

"18 Carat Love Affair" is a new vocal version of "Nothinginsomethingparticular" from SULK. "18 Carat Love Affair" & "Voluntary Wishes, Swap-it Production" produced by Associates/Hedges, "Love Hangover" arranged and produced by Mark Arthurworrey/Associates.

Linda Wren, who knew Billy well, told the Associates mailing list 20 March 1999: "The original A.P was always classed as a bit strange and weird for the general pop listening population. So someone had the bright idea of re-mixing it so it would appeal and sound more 'pop friendly'. It probably got onto CD for the same reasons. Billy couldn't stand it and felt he had sold himself for doing it."

Dec 1982 various artists cassette PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! 'an hour of eloquent sounds'.

  13. Take Me To the Girl 4.24 (2-CD 6 May 2002 with PERHAPS on CD 2: WEA 8573884962)
The original album tracks were recorded 1987-88. Produced by Boris Blank in Zurich (CD tracks 6-8, 11) Chris Hughes/Ross Cullum at the Wool Hall in Bath (CD track 2), Die Zwei/Zensor GmbH (CD track 5), and Peter Henderson in London (CD track 13, and probably the rest as well: 1-4, 9-10, 12). I can't remember now where I got the track listing or the catalogue number from to the planned Oct/Nov 1988 LP/MC/CD. Gary Lornie gave me the track listing for the planned 1989 album - he has the proof cover that was used to sell the album to the shops.

Nov/Dec 1988 limited 7"/CDM The Associates: Country Boy

    Country Boy 3.03 / Just Can't Say Goodbye 3.55 [fade-out of 12" mix] (7": WEA, YZ 329)
  1. Country Boy 3.03
  2. Just Can't Say Goodbye (12" Mix) 7.19
  3. Take Me To the Girl 4.24 [1985 single]
  4. Heart of Glass (Dub Mix by Francis Kevorkian/Goh Hotoda) 5.03 (3" CD-maxi: YZ 329CD)
Side A produced by Die Zwei/Zensor GmbH, side B produced by Peter Henderson. Only 5.000 singles of the 7" was pressed up, and I assume less of the CD single. The release date or even the month is not known, as it was never released properly. One singles catalogue I have even says January 1989, and the Associates Singles collection CD booklet says June 1989 and marks it as unreleased. Obviously the B-side was recorded for THE GLAMOUR CHASE but I assume it was not included due to lack of space on the vinyl LP. It was re-recorded for WILD AND LONELY with a new producer.

The original album was produced by Julian Mendelsohn. The original CD bonus track "The Glamour Chase" produced by Billy MacKenzie. Note: The US CD/cassette has a different 4.59 mix of Ever Since That Day, including a sax & trumpet solo from 3.11 to 3.34. Some fans and sources also claim that more tracks on the US release are differently mixed compared to the UK album.

Glamour Chase was still not released by 1992, so Billy decided to include one of its tracks (In Windows All) as the last track on Outernational. So, in essence it was really an "extra track" on Outernational. Glamour Chase came out eventually on CD in 2002, so it would have been logical not to include that track again on the 2006 & 2013 CD, but to add other relevant extra tracks instead.
