Tony Mansfield produced this LP in early 1980, engineered by Pete Hammond at the T.M.C. Studios, Tooting, England.
Peter Banks told in the liner notes to the 2025 6-CD Box "Bright Lights - 1974-1983":
"We started working on '80-f' and this would turn out to be one of the low spots for the band, one that we try and not focus on!
Having chosen our own producer, Tony Mansfield of New Musik fame, we went into his local studio [T.M.C. Studios] in South London and recorded with Nick Brotherwood on drums.
The album was mastered, sleeve design complete and even some [copies] pressed up when we were called into the CBS boardroom and informed it would be dropped.
We were simply told it was not good enough and we needed to go away and write three 'hit singles' to replace some of the tracks on the album."
This planned tracklist is revealed on a test pressing: https://www.discogs.com/release/15004826-After-The-Fire-80-f
"This acetate is a proto version of the album that became 80-f, recorded by Tony Mansfield before April 1980.
Nick Brotherwood provided Drums as Ivor Twydell had left at the end of 1979. When completed, the album was presented to CBS, who rejected it.
They subsequently sent the band off to Germany, with ex-Fly's drummer Peter King, to complete the album with producer Mack, who rebuilt the album.
Three songs were dropped (Another World / Operator / Satellite In Orbit) and three new songs were added (Wild West Show / Why Can't We Be Friends / Joanne).
Also dropped was the reprise of Starflight. T"
Tony Mansfield also produced another track "Why Can't We Be Friends" during these sessions.
In 2025 seven of these unreleased Tony Mansfield-produced tracks were finally released in the 6-CD Box "Aftyer the Fires: Bright Lights - 1974-1983:
Starflight, It's High Fashion, Another World, Operator, Love Will Always Make You Cry, 1980-F and Satellite in Orbit (leaving out Can You Face It?,
